Spider-Man fights Magma for a bit, then flees and gets purposefully captured as Peter. Magma is working for Roxxon Oil on something with satellites that can blow up any point on earth. Peter breaks out Joy and their two new friends from the town and purposefully falls back into the cave as they’re escaping so he can change into Spider-Man and fight Magma. During their fight, Magma accidentally shoots some machine and it blows up the entire place. There’s an epilogue that’s the aftermath of the explosion. Joy wonders if Peter was caught in the explosion. There’s a shredded Spider-Man suit in the rubble.

Jonah Jameson opens the offices of his new magazine “Now” (in the works for a while) and sends Peter to Virginia with reporter Joy Mercado to cover the closing of a factory that should bring about rioting. There, they find things are very out of the ordinary and get captured by a group called Men Without Faces and taken to an underground city. Peter escapes from their grasp and changes into Spider-Man and beats the crap out of them. He then meets up with a giant man in a terrifying suit called Magma.
