The Spectacular Spider-Man #153 (1989)

“Siege”

Rating: 5/5

Writer: Gerry Conway
Artist: Sal Buscema

Bruiser, Joe Robertson’s protector friend in prison, helps him work out and become strong. Tombstone then fights Bruiser and kills him. The alarms go off and Tombstone leaves Joe, who weeps over Bruiser’s body.

Spider-Man is under gunfire by Hammerhead’s men. He sees Jonah Jameson, who tells him to come with him. He does. Jameson is actually Chameleon, but Spidey doesn’t realize that. Chameleon injects something into Spider-Man that makes him weak and woozy. Hammerhead comes in and beats him up for a bit. Spider-Man gains enough strength to knock Hammerhead out and travels to Kingpin’s building. It’s already under fire. The war with the Lobo brothers has already begun.
