Web of Spider-Man #36 (1988)

“Phreak Out!”

Rating: 4/5

Writer: Gerry Conway
Artist: Alex Saviuk

The kid that controlled the robot in the last issue puts on a bionic suit that he was developing for the science fair. It gives him some extra power, but when someone comes in and turns on the lights it overloads and courses high amounts of electricity through his body. Then he has the ability to overload electronics just by touching them. He goes to Peter’s house and kidnaps Mary Jane, then Spider-Man comes after him and defeats him. There are also some short interludes. One is about a guy named Roland Rayburn who is a sleazy account exec for big criminals. He’s being followed by a mysterious man who calls himself Tombstone (first appearance of Tombstone). Joe Robertson apparently has encountered Tombstone before. Also, a South American soldier is turned into the new Tarantula, now called La Tarantula, and sent to America to kill Spider-Man (who killed the old Tarantula).
