The Amazing Spider-Man #288 (1987)

“Gang War, Part Five: Gang War Rages On!”

Rating: 4/5

Writer: Jim Owsley
Artist: Alan Kupperberg

Kingpin plans to kill all of his lieutenants and get a new crew. He fires Jack O’Lantern. Ned Leeds visits Lance Bannon, who has a bunch of pictures of the Hobgoblin on his wall. Perhaps Lance is the Hobgoblin? Betty Leeds goes out for groceries and comes back to find Hobgoblin roughing up Flash (who’s staying at her place). She sees Hobgoblin unmasked and faints. Daredevil calls Spider-Man and wants to crash the Kingpin’s lieutenant killing party. Spidey’s still pissed at Daredevil. While beating up the Kingpin’s men, Spidey realizes that it was just another trick and Daredevil was using him again. Kingpin never planned to kill his lieutenants. It was just a deal with the police so the police could arrest a bunch of his higher ups. Spider-Man is sick and tired of it and goes ballistic in Kingpin’s office before leaving in a fury. Daredevil is more ashamed of himself than he’s ever been. Guest heroes in this issue include Falcon and Black Cat.
