Web of Spider-Man #28 (1987)

“Torch Bearing”

Rating: 4/5

Writer: Bob Layton
Artist: Steve Geiger

Peter tells Mary Jane a story about something that happened a while ago when he stashed his civilian clothes in the torch of the Statue of Liberty. He returned to find the torch being taken away for refurbishing. Then the torch was sent to California to be in a parade. So Pete went out to cover it for the Bugle. Some thieves tried to steal the torch but Spider-Man thwarted them. Turns out it wasn’t the real torch anyway, and the real one was still in a warehouse in New York. Mary Jane has a good laugh about it.
