Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #6 (1986)

“Ace II”

Rating: 4/5

Writer: Peter David
Artist: Mark Beachum

This is a sequel to the Spectacular Spider-Man annual for 1985. Ace is an ex-gang leader who is now supposed to testify against his brother and old gang for murder. Peter is assigned to take pictures of him for the Bugle. Peter remembers their last encounter and how Ace got the better of him and anticipated his movements and dodged every one of Spider-Man’s blows. Ace also messes up his spider sense. So Peter goes to the trial and sees Ace testify and then leave before questioning’s done and knock out two cops at the door. This causes his brother to be set free due to lack of evidence. Spider-Man catches up with him and this fight is just as unsuccessful as the first and the only time he lands some hits is when Ace lets him. Then Ace stabs him in the heart with a retractible blade (i.e. not harming him) just to show he could’ve killed him. Then as an old gang member is about to shoot him, Spider-Man saves him, but suspects Ace knew about the guy and let Spider-Man save him for some reason.
