Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #103 (1985)

“Compulsion!”

Rating: 4/5

Writer: Peter David
Artist: Rich Buckler

Three college students invent a super villain called Blaze to mess with Spider-Man and see if they can break him. Though they never intend for an actual version of the villain to appear. One of the students feels bad and bails out. He then contacts Spider-Man and Human Torch to play a prank (of sorts) on the other two. Human Torch pretends to be some lunatic who actually becomes Blaze and challenges Spidey to a fight. They fight and the student who’s in on the prank gets “burned” in the crossfire. The other two then confess to Spider-Man and Captain Jean DeWolff what they did.
