The Amazing Spider-Man #218 (1981)

“Eye of the Beholder!”

Rating: 4/5

Writer: Denny O’Neil
Artist: John Romita Jr.

The new mud man giant beast thing brushes past Spider-Man and just trudges off. It finds the girl (named Sadie) that Sandman and Hydro-Man both love and they start a show on Broadway where people come to see the freaky monster. It’s a lot like King Kong, and they even mention it in the issue. Sadie kisses her manager and the mud man becomes jealous and breaks loose and starts terrorizing the city. And after grabbing Sadie and climbing a building (told you it was a lot like King Kong) the SWAT team dumps some kind of gas that separates the moisture from the sand and causes the guy to crumble apart.
